This MD describes the role of the NetCC in a 9700 or 8700 system, how

to test it, and how to connect it to both new and existing systems.

The NetCC is supported by 9700 Version 1.20 or later and 8700 support

is anticipated in Version 2.70.

What Is the Network Cluster Controller?

Physically, the NetCC is based on a modified version of the Equinox

SuperSerial Ethernet to Serial Converter. Functionally, the NetCC is

an Ethernet to RS422 serial converter running a MICROS software

application that supports MICROS RS422 devices in both the 8700 or

9700 environments. For 9700 systems, it provides the primary means

of driving MICROS RS422 devices such as IDN printers. For an 8700

system, it serves as a replacement for the legacy Local Cluster

Controller (LCC), and Remote Cluster Controller (RCC).

The NetCC is connected to the 8700 or 9700 system LAN in the same

manner as a PC Workstation. From a single Ethernet input, the NetCC

provides eight RS422 ports for driving devices such as MICROS IDN

Printers and the User Workstation/3.

In the 8700/9700 environments, the NetCC can communicate with the

following MICROS devices:

• All MICROS PC Workstations, including the Model 32, the Model

64, the Ultra, and the Eclipse. However, these workstations likely

will use an Ethernet connection to the system server rather than an

RS422 connection.

• The Remote Cluster Controller (RCC)

• The User Workstation/3 (UWS/3)

• The Keyboard Workstation (KBWS)

• All MICROS IDN Printers including the Stand Alone Roll/Slip,

MICROS Express Thermal, and Epson printers such as the TMT88,

and U200 series equipped with the IDN module.
